Will YouTube Finally Make Money? Streaming Vids Will Tell

youtube-tv2Could this be true? And more importantly, is this finally the move to turn YouTube into a profitable operation? Google invested over $1.6 billion in the video streaming site almost three years ago, but the hugely successful parent company has made no secret of its troubles turning YouTube into a profitable venture. Now, tied in with the fact that they just re-kick-started the somewhat encouraging Partnership Program, YouTube looks to be right on the cusp of making a dollar.

That’s because YouTube is currently in talks with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, Sony Corp, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Warner Bros to make it so that their movies – the ones that have already come out on DVD – can be rented and streamed on YouTube’s platform.

Details right now are pretty thin, and no one’s absolutely sure how this agreement will go down, but we can only imagine that pricing will work in a way similar to that of any DVD rental store. You pay a fee and get to watch the movie whenever you want for a couple of days. Pretty simple, right?
